You walk into a shop asking for an HP Pavilion, ENVY or Spectre, and you are shown something called an OmniBook. You are not alone in being confused. In 2025 HP renamed most of its home and personal laptops, and many Kenyan buyers are still catching up.
This guide explains what changed, which OmniBook matches the laptop you know, and how to pick the right one without paying for features you will not use.
Quick Answer: What Replaced HP Spectre, ENVY and Pavilion?
HP OmniBook is the new name for HP’s personal laptops. Roughly, OmniBook 3 replaces the entry HP and Pavilion laptops, OmniBook 5 and 7 cover the Pavilion and ENVY level, and OmniBook X and OmniBook Ultra take the place of Spectre. “Flip” in the name means a 2-in-1 that folds into a tablet. Business laptops keep the EliteBook and ProBook names, and gaming laptops stay OMEN and Victus.

The Old HP Names and Their OmniBook Replacements
| If you wanted… | Look at… | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| HP 14 / HP 15 / Pavilion | OmniBook 3 | Students, home use, browsing and office documents |
| Pavilion or ENVY | OmniBook 5 / OmniBook 7 | Daily work, better screens and battery, more power |
| ENVY x360 or Spectre x360 (2-in-1) | OmniBook X Flip / OmniBook 5 Flip | People who take notes, draw or present in tablet mode |
| Spectre (premium) | OmniBook X / OmniBook Ultra | Executives and creators who want the best screen, build and battery |
HP also uses OmniDesk for desktops and OmniStudio for all-in-one computers.
What the Numbers and Words Mean
- 3, 5, 7: higher numbers mean better build, screen and features.
- X and Ultra: the top of the range, with the slimmest designs, best displays (often OLED) and longest battery life.
- Flip: a 360-degree hinge so the laptop folds into a tablet. Many come with a pen.
- 14 or 16: the screen size in inches. 14-inch is easier to carry, 16-inch is better for spreadsheets and editing.
Intel, AMD or Snapdragon: Check This Before You Buy
OmniBook models come with different processors, and this matters more than the name.
- Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI: works with all your usual Windows apps, printers and software. The safest choice for most people.
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X: excellent battery life and very quiet, but it uses a different (ARM) chip. Most everyday apps work, but some older programs, certain accounting software, printer drivers and many games may not. Check your must-have apps first.
Many OmniBooks are “Copilot+ PCs” with an NPU, a small AI engine that powers features like live captions and background blur on video calls.
Which OmniBook Should You Buy?
- Student or home user: OmniBook 3 or OmniBook 5. Plenty for assignments, Zoom, Netflix and Office.
- Professional who works all day: OmniBook 5 16 or OmniBook 7 with Core Ultra 7 and 16GB RAM. A bigger screen and enough power for heavy multitasking.
- Note-taker, designer or presenter: OmniBook X Flip with a pen.
- Want the very best: OmniBook Ultra Flip with an OLED screen.
Should You Still Consider an Older Spectre or ENVY?
Yes, if value matters to you. A refurbished HP Spectre x360 with a 12th Gen Core i7 gives you a premium metal build, a beautiful touchscreen and a pen-ready design, often for noticeably less than a new OmniBook X. You get a shorter warranty (6 months instead of 1 year) and fewer AI features, but for writing, browsing, office work and presentations it is an excellent laptop.
An ENVY with a dedicated NVIDIA RTX graphics card is also a smart choice if you edit photos or videos, because most OmniBooks rely on built-in graphics.

HP has moved its personal laptops to the OmniBook name. Spectre and ENVY models are still available as refurbished or remaining stock, but new models carry OmniBook names.
Which OmniBook replaces the HP Spectre x360?
The OmniBook X Flip and the OmniBook Ultra Flip. Both are premium 2-in-1 laptops with touchscreens and pen support.
Is a Snapdragon OmniBook good for me?
It is great for battery life, browsing, Office and video calls. If you rely on specialised software, older programs, some printers or games, choose an Intel or AMD model instead.
