Apple AirTag 2nd Generation | Precision Finding | Find My Tracking | IP67

The Apple AirTag 2nd Generation is a compact smart tracker designed to help iPhone and iPad users locate important everyday belongings such as keys, backpacks, luggage and bags through Apple’s Find My ecosystem.

The new generation introduces Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, providing improved Precision Finding on compatible devices. Precision Finding combines distance, direction, sound and haptic feedback to guide users towards a nearby AirTag with greater accuracy.

Compared with the previous generation, the new AirTag offers an expanded finding range. Apple states that Precision Finding can work from up to 50% farther away, while an upgraded Bluetooth system extends proximity detection range.

The built-in speaker has also been improved. The second-generation AirTag is approximately 50% louder than the previous model and can be heard from up to twice as far away under supported conditions, making misplaced belongings easier to locate around the home, office or hotel room.

When an AirTag is outside the Bluetooth range of its owner, Apple’s Find My network can help locate it using nearby Apple devices. Location information is securely relayed to the owner while maintaining privacy through encrypted communication.

The Lost Mode feature can notify the owner when the AirTag is detected. An NFC-enabled smartphone can also tap the AirTag to access available contact information provided by the owner.

For travellers, Share Item Location allows the location of lost luggage or another misplaced item to be temporarily shared with supported third parties, including participating airlines, to help with recovery.

The AirTag uses a user-replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery, eliminating the need to recharge the tracker. Its compact design is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, making it suitable for everyday use.

The second-generation model retains the same physical form factor as the original AirTag, allowing it to work with existing compatible AirTag key rings, holders and accessories.
